Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, or having difficulty managing emotions, therapy can be helpful. Sometimes our relationships also start to become impacted.

If you’ve never explored therapy before, it can feel very overwhelming. Our therapists provide a structured approach to the first few sessions to help ease you into the process. We always encourage clients to collaborate on their treatment plan as well.

Therapy sessions will vary based on your individual treatment plan that your psychotherapist and you will collaborate on. For a general idea, individuals who are coming in to address short-term problems tend to see their therapist for 5 to 8 sessions, while trauma and complex issues are usually more long-term care of 20+ sessions.

This is a common concern we often get, especially when it relates to family, partners, or bosses finding out. The answer is yes–with a few exceptions! These may include if your therapist feels you (or someone close to you) are in an immediate risk of danger. Our therapists will always review these exceptions with you in your first session, and you’re encouraged to ask questions if you’re unsure.

This one varies! We always recommend starting with a weekly or bi-weekly approach to build that therapeutic relationship and progress. Your therapist will frequently check-in with you to see how you are feeling, and frequency of sessions will be adjusted as needed.

For the most part, individual therapy and counselling is covered by insurance plans, but it depends on your specific plan. Our therapists are considered Registered Psychotherapists (some Qualifying, which just means they see a supervisor regularly!) with CRPO. Please ask your insurance company if your insurance covers this type of provider.

The answer is: it depends on you! Some people prefer the comfort of their own home, or familiar surroundings to help them open up in therapy sessions. Others prefer the physical connection of in-person sessions. Generally, online therapy has less of a waitlist due to the flexibility of scheduling, though.
